Charles David Leeper

CHARLES DAVID LEEPER, for extraordinary heroism as Pilot of a Torpedo Plane in Air Group TWENTY, attached to the U.S.S. ENTERPRISE, in action against enemy Japanese forces during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, October 25, 1944. Undaunted by intense enemy antiaircraft fire, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, (then Ensign) Leeper pressed home vigorous attacks upon an enemy carrier, scoring a direct hit upon the hostile vessel and rendering valiant assistance in sinking a major unit of the Japanese Fleet. His courage, expert airmanship and unwavering devotion to duty contributed to the success of his squadron in fulfilling this dangerous mission and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
