Claude Morrison Nichols was serving with Company B. 306th Regiment, U.S. Infantry, 77th Division at Saint Juvan, France, in 1918, when during a shell attack by the enemy, he rescued a badly wounded soldier and carried him to safety.

Mr. Nichols joined the Legion of Valor in 1960 and resided in Ohio.
