For extraordinary heroism during operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Staff Sergeant Timothy F. Nein heroic actions during combat operations in Iraq contributed to the overwhelming success of theMuIti National Corps-Iraq mission. While serving as the Squad Leader for Ravin 42 in the 617th Military Police Company, Staff Sergeant Nein led his soldiers on a counterattack of anti-Iraq Forces (AIF) who were ambushing a convoy with heavy AK47 assault rifle fire, RPK machine gun fire, and rocket propelled grenades. Staff Sergeant Nein maneuvered his squad to a flanking position allowing them to suppress the AIF. Raven 42 eliminated 27 AIF, wounded six, captured one, and confiscated numerous weapons and ammunition from the ambush site. His actions saved the lives of numerous convoy members. SSG Nein’s bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflects distinct credit upon himself, the 503rd Military Police Battalion (Airborne), the 18th Military Police Brigade, and the United States Army.
