LIEUTENANT COMMANDER HAROLD PAUL BREHM, United States Naval Reserve, received the Navy Cross for his extraordinary heroism while serving as the rank of Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve. For extraordinary heroism as a Pilot of a Dive Bomber in Bombing Squadron Eighty Seven, attached to the U.S.S. TICONDEROGA, in action against enemy Japanese forces in the vicinity of Kure, Japan, on July 24, 1945. Braving heavy enemy antiaircraft fire from the ship and shore batteries before, during and after the attack, Lieutenant Brehm skillfully pressed home his bombing run against the enemy battleship-aircraft carrier HYUGA, scoring a direct hit with a 1000-pound bomb and contributing materially to the sinking of the hostile vessel. His airmanship and unwavering devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
LCDR Brehm resided in Southern California.
