EARNEST F. FLOEGE, was presented with the Distinguished Service Cross by General Eisenhower for his extraordinary heroism in enemy occupied territory from June 1943 to March 1944. During this period Lieutenant Floege organized a resistance network in German-occupied Europe to operate against the enemy, and engaged in the preparation of plans in support of the forth-coming military operations on the Continent. The actions on the part of Lieutenant Floege on this dangerous mission reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States. Subsequent to this period of service, Floege, then a Captain, was parachuted back into occupied Europe to take over a network whose British organizer had been forced to take refuge in Switzerland. He was responsible for successful sabotage of key rail lines, attacks on important installations and finally for organizing and gallantly leading a 3000 man guerilla force which greatly facilitated the advance of the Allied Armies. For his outstanding contribution, he was appionted a member of the Distinguished Service Order by King George the Sixth of Great Britain.
Mr. Floege joined the Legion of Valor in 1961 and resides in Virginia.
