AUGUSTINE S. SILVA, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy in France on 19 November 1944. He braved hostile fire from a German tank and crawled to within 10 yards and tossed two hand grenades at the tank, killing the gunner and two of the crew. When two others attempted to crawl out, he killed them also.
Mr. Silva joined the Legion of Valor in 1952 and resided in Massachusetts.
