Philip Hurley Sr

Mr. Phillip Hurley, as a first Lieutenant of Infantry. 83rd Company, 6th Regiment, 4th Marine Brigade, 2nd U.S. Army Division, Mr. Hurley gained the Distinguished Service Cross for his extraordinary heroism in the Bois de Belleau on 6 June 1918. He displayed coolness, judgment, and utter fearlessness in leading his platoon to its ojective under heavy fire. The heroism displayed by Lt. Hurley and many others on that fateful occasion led the French to re-name that patch of trees the Forest of The Marine Corps Brigade.

Mr. Hurley joined the Legion of Valor in 1974 and resided in Connecticut.
