On April 7, 1945, JOHN D. WALKER was a pilot of a Torpedo Plane attached to the U.S.S. BENNINGTON during action against an enemy Task Force off Kyushu, Japan. Penetrating an intense barraage of antiaircraft fire to press home a determined attack, he contributed materially to the damaging hits and subsequent sinking of a Japanese cruiser.
