Brigadier General GEORGE O. VAN ORDEN, recieved his Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism in the assault and reduction of enemy defenses at Cape Torokina, Boungainville, BSI, on 1 November, 1943 while serving with the 3rd Marine Regiment in the South Pacific during World War II.

General Van Orden joined the Legion of Valor in 1961 and resided in Florida.
