GERALD W. OLLER, Sergeant, Company C, 104th Infantry Regiment, United States Army. For extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy of the United States in Luxembourg. On the night of 27 December 1944, Sergeant Oller, serving as assistant bazooka man, Company C, 104th Regiment, was manning a bazooka alone and maintaining his position stubbornly in the face of two advancing enemy tanks accompanied by hostile infantry men. Scoring direct hits on both vehicles, he compelled them to withdraw. He then left his position, crawled toward the enemy infantry and, lying in the snow under hostile fire throughout the night, killed twenty enemy with extremely accurate rifle fire. Sergeant Oller’s aggressiveness, fearless determination, indomitable courage, and loyal devotion to duty reflect highest credit upon himself and the military service.
