Mr. Jackson was the founder of the American Legion. He resided in Vermont.
Note: His real claim to fame happened in 1903. On a fifty dollar bet, he stated he would drive a horseless carriage across the United States in less than three months. He purchased a used Winton touring car with only one spare and two bald tires in San Francisco. He started on May 23 and ended up in New York City on July 26 to become the first person to drive across the United States. Total cost was $8,000 and he never collected the $50.00 bet.
