LT William F MitchellLIEUTENANT WILLIAM FRENCH MITCHELL, United States Naval Reserve. For extraordinary heroism as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. SC-676 during the amphibious invasion of Sicily on July 10, 1943. Despite terrific enemy cross-fire, Lieutenant Mitchell skillfully maneuvered his ship to a point within five hundred yards of the hostile shore line in order to conduct various assault waves to their designated beaches and, by effective gun fire, provided excellent support throughout the landing operations. His expert seamanship and heroic devotion to duty contributed materially to a successful invasion of the island by our forces and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Mr. Mitchell was a LIFE MEMBER and resided in Florida.
