CAPTAIN HERBERT A. PETERSON, a veteran of 39 years of military service, he fought in both WWI and WWII. He was awarded the Navy Cross as a demolition expert during the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. He commanded a detachment of naval demolition men, landed with the first wave at Utah Beach, and cleared lanes through the enemy barriers so that succeeding waves could gain the beach.

CAPT. Peterson joined the L.O.V. in 1968.
