Angelo S. Viale was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for actions in Luzon, Philippine Islands, on April 2, 1945. When his position was hit by enemy artillery killing or wounding most of the non-commissioned officers, he organized a withdrawel to a new position. Again the enemy fired mortar shells and hit the group. He again led his companions to safety, reoccupied the ridge, and then skillfully withdrew his companions without a casualty.
Mr. Viale resides in California.
