Mr. H. Clay Eversole was a private in hte Medical Detachment of the 148th Infantry, 37th Division, whne his extraordinary heroism on 27 September 1918 brought him the Distinguished Service Cross. He frequently exposed himself to great danger by carring a number of wounded men through heavy machine gun fire from an open field to a place of safety.
Mr. Eversole had been a member of the Legion of Valor since 1974. He resided in Ohio.
