For extraordinary heroism in action on __ March 1943 near Tunisia. After an unsuccessful attack on a strongly held enemy position, Company ___ was ordered to withdraw to take up a defensive position on more favorable ground. During the withdrawal, Private First Class Dugas, seeing his Company Commander seriously wounded and lying entirely exposed to severe enemy mortar, machine gun and rifle fire, left his place of relative safety to go to the wounded officer’s aid. Alone and unassisted he carried his Company Commander three hundred yards over fire-swept terrain to safety and medical attention. Private First Class Dugas’s heroic action saved his Company Commander from certain capture or death. His courage and heroic actions were an inspiration to the men of his company and reflect the highest tradition of the Armed Forces of the United States.
