MAJOR CLAUDE B. PHILLIPS (then Technical Sergeant), 31st Bombardment Squadron (H), AAF, United States Army. For extraordinary heroism in connection with military opera-tions against an armed enemy on 31 July 1942. Technical Sergeant PHILLIPS was the bombardier of an airplane that completed a successful reconnoitering mission and pho-tographic mission. On being attacked by six enemy fighter aircraft, Technical Sergeant PHILLIPS assisted in manning the guns and succeeded in beating off the attack, during which he displayed unusual determination and aggressiveness.

MAJ Phillips is a life member and resides in Hawaii.
