COLUMBUS WHIPPLE served in France and Germany in World War I with the 47th Infanty, 4th Division. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in military operations at Bazoches, France on August 8, 1918, and he was awarded the Verdun Medal by the French government.

Mr. Whipple joined the L.O.V. in 1918 and resided in Utah.
