COMMANDER EDGAR B. WICKLANDER, U.S. Navy, awarded the Navy Cross for actions during the assault on Okinawa Shima on May 18, 1945. CDR Wicklander was Commanding Officer of a ship that pulled alongside a friendly destroyer and rescued the survivors and fought the raging fires.
