LIEUTENANT COMMANDER EDWIN ANTHONY DuBOSE, United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary heroism as Commander of a Division of Motor Torpedo Boats, during operations against enemy coastal traffic off the West Coast of Italy, in March and April 1944. Leading his units on a number of night missions for the interception of German convoys attempting to maintain supply lines to enemy armies in the area of Rome, Lieutenant Commander (then Lieutenant) DuBose skillfully deployed his forces in order to seek out the enemy and screen the main group from destroyer and E-boat fire. On all occasions, he pressed home bold and aggressive attacks against all hostile units threatening the vessels within his screen, thereby enabling the main force to destroy several convoys carrying vital war materials to the front lines. With his division sustaining only minimum damage throughout this period of intensive activities, Lieutenant Commander DuBose had successfully carried out a dangerous phase of these decisive operations, rendering invaluable assistance in sinking fifteen F lighters, one corvette and one tug and in severely damaging two destroyers. His fearless leadership, outstanding ability, heroic conduct and unwavering devotion to duty under fire were an inspiration to the personnel of his command and reflect the highest credit upon Lieutenant Commander DuBose and the United States Naval Service.
CPT DuBose resided in Texas.
