ELMER L. FORBUSS, received the Distinguished Service Cross while serving as a sergeant in B Company, 119th Infantry on 14 January 1945. B Company was engaged against German forces in Belgium when an extremely heavy volume of enemy fire wounded a machine gunner and forced him to abandon his weapon. Sergeant Forbuss crawled through a terrific hail of fire to recover the gun. Ignoring the intense enemy activity, he operated the weapon against the Germans and neutralized several of their positions. After expending his machine gun ammunition, he killed two of the foe with his rifle. The courage and ability of Sergeant Forbuss, which permitted his company to advance were in keeping with the finest military traditions.
Mr. Forbuss joined the Legion of Valor in 1977 and resides in Nevada.
