1Lt. Frank Melville Brown, Jr., was a first lieutenant commanding 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Philippine Army when on 18 January 1942 he displayed extraordinary gallantry in action at Abucay, Bataan. Seeing two marines lying wounded only a short distance from the enemy positions, he ran across open ground between the lines to the first marine. Moving him back to the Filipino foxholes, under heavy enemy fire, he ran back for the second man. Because of the manÃs severe wounds, Lt. Brown dashed back alone to the Filipino lines, picked up a stretcher, ran back through enemy fire and carried the wounded on the stretcher.
Lieutenant Brown joined the Legion of Valor in 1960.
