George Dashiell Switzer

George_SwitzerGeorge Dashiell Switzer, United States Navy: For extraordinary heroism as Pilot of a Dive Bomber in Bombing Squadron EIGHTY TWO, attached to the U.S.S. BENNINGTON, in action against enemy Japanese forces in the vicinity of the Naval Base at Kure, Japan, March 19, 1945. Participating in a coordinated strike against a new enemy battleship and its destroyer-cruiser screen, Lieutenant (then Lieutenant, Junior Grade,) Switzer dived through an intense barrage of antiaircraft fire to score repeated hits and near misses which contributed materially to the infliction of damage on the target. His aggressive fighting spirit and devotion to the fulfillment of a perilous mission were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

George Switzer retired from the Navy in 1967 and currently lives in Cedar Hill, Texas. His membership in the Legion of Valor was sponsored by Dick Agnew, DSC and John Corder, AFC from the LOV Dallas-Fort Worth chapter.
