SGT Grant S Lindsay

Sergeant GRANT S. LINDSAY, Company L, 166th Infantry, 42nd Division, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action near Sedan, France, November 7,1918. CITATION: Sergeant Lindsay was in command of his platoon on the right flank of the assaulting wave, when hidden concentrations of machine guns were encountered in front and on the right flank. Skillfully maneuvering his combat groups, he led them with remarkable courage and coolness through the heavy enemy machine gun fire and broke up the hostile counter attack which had been started. In so doing he personally advanced ahead of his men under heavy fire from machine guns and snipers and succeeded in locating some of the machine gun nests.

Mr. Lindsay joined the L.O.V. in 1947 and resided in Ohio.
