First Lieutenant HAROLD T. HERRIOTT, gained the Distinguished Service Cross for his extraordinary heroism, as Bombardier of a B-24 type aircraft, while engaged in the destruction of vital enemy industrial installations, over Steyr, Austria. Although having received a serious spinal wound during an enemy fighter attack, prior to the bomb run, Lt. Herriott completely disregarded his own personal safety by having crew members hold him in position in order that he might effectively fulfill the task assigned to him. The fortitude and heroism exemplified by his actions reflect great credit upon Lt. Herriott and the military tradition of the Army Air Forces and the United States of America.
Lieutenant Herriott joined the Legion of Valor in 1963 and resided in New York.
