Harry D Barton

HARRY D. BARTON was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross as a corporal in Battery A of the 6th Field Artillery for his extraordinary heroism near Fleville, France on October 4, 1918. At that time the then Corporal Barton was in charge of one of the sections of drivers of his platoon when it was caught in an enemy barrage. Corporal Barton, unlimbering his gun caisson, removed his horses and drivers to a place of safety and then returned to his platoon where he served as a runner, passing four times over heavily shelled areas.

Members of the AEF will remember that the 6th Field Artillery fired the first American artillery round at the Germans in 1917. Mr. Barton joined the Legion of Valor in 1962 and resided in Ohio.
