COLONEL HERBERT D. KALEN, (then Major), crash landed his HH-3 helicopter into the Son Tay Prison camp near Hanoi, North Vietnam on 21 November 1970. Carrying the lead elements of the assault forces, he flew his 73-foot long helicopter into an 85-foot clearing within the center of the camp.
