JESSE H. BULLOCK, staff sergeant, Company G, 32 Infantry, Army of the United States. For extraordinary heroism in action of Attu Island, Alaska, May 22-28, 1943. In action against the enemy near the junction of Massacre and Sarana Valleys on May 22, Sergeant BullockÃs platoon leader was severely wounded. Despite having received a shoulder wound himself, Sergeant Bullock refused to abandon his men and assumed command of the platoon. For seven days he continued to lead his men although his right arm was useless. He never mentioned his wound, and many of his men did not realize he had been hit. During this period Sergeant BullockÃs platoon was constantly in close contact with the enemy. The platoon, though seriously depleted fought on in spite of precipitous mountain terrain and severe rain and snow storms. Sergeant Bullock continued to exercise courageous leadership over his men until May 28, when he was critically wounded by machine gun fire. His unwavering dedication of himself to his men and to his duty contributed invaluably to the progress of his companyÃs advance.
Mr. Bullock resided in California.
