Vice Admiral Joseph E. Stika, U.S. Coast Guard received the Navy Cross for his herioc conduct during World War I on the occasion of the fire at a shell-loading plant, Morgan, New Jersey. Then a first lieutenant, with others, he moved a train of nine cars loaded with high explosives to a place of safety through an area where fire was liable to break out at any moment.
VADM Stika joined the L.O.V. in 1974 and resided in Virginia.
