MAJOR LEE RUSSELL JAMISON, then Second Lieutenant, Field Artillery, 50th Field Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, United States Army. For extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy in France. Lieutenant Jamison was serving as a forward artillery observer during action near Macleuves, France, on 15 November 1944. When the enemy launched a fierce counterattack, the Lieutenant, realizing that the line behind him was thinly held, coolly called for friendly artillery fire on his own position in order to halt the enemy who had advanced to within machine pistol and hand grenade distance. He courageously remained at his post adjusting fire until the enemy, suffering great loss, was completely routed. This officer’s conspicuous heroism and courageous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military service.
Major Jamison resided in Ohio.
