SGT. LEONARD A. FUNK, JR., nicknamed “The Little Paratrooper” because of his 5’3″ height, was first awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for actions near Voxhil, Holland on September 18, 1944, when he led a three-men patrol against a German flak battery of three .20 mm guns which were firing on American gliders.
