LESTER J. BARNES, received the Distinguished Service Cross for his extraordinary heroism on July 15, 1918 when two members of a small group were severely wounded during a counter-attack against the enemy. Barnes, then a Private with M Company, 101st. Infantry, 26th Division, advanced twice across the open under machine gun fire and brought each man back to cover.
Mr Barnes joined the Legion of Valor in 1964 and resided in Massachusetts.
