NORMAN D. KOLEMAN, a veteran of WWI, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action near Les Pres Farm, France on August 9, 1918. After his gun crew’s dugout was hit by a large caliber shell and he was wounded in nine places, he immediately walked and crawled to the nearest shelter to secure aid for his men. He is also credited with holding the Purple Heart and the Mexican Border Victory Medal.
Mr. Koleman joined the Legion of Valor in 1937 as a life member. He resided in Ohio.
