BG RICHARD W. HAYWARD, (U.S.M.C.) was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for action near Mundong, Korea on July 8, 1951, while directing a pitched battle saving his Marines and the supplies they were escorting while defeating the enemey. During World War II, he commanded the 2nd Marine Parachute Battalion and the 1st Battalion of the 8th Marine Regiment. He saw duty in the Pacific Theater from Guadalcanal to Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa.
BG Hayward joined the L.O.V. in 1959.
