Major ROBERT F. BLUMHAGEN, U.S. Army, awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action on November 3, 1944, near Nampateluzo, France. When attacked by 500 German infantrymen over rolling and intended ground, Blumhagen dashed through a hail of bullets to an artillery tower. He climbed to the topmost turret and used his BAR to shoot down into the faces of the Germans. The decimated enemy then withdrew.
Mr. Blumhagen was a Life Member and resided in Alabama.
