COL Robert F DexterCOLONEL ROBERT F. DEXTER, (then Captain), Infantry, 406th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations in Germany from 23 February 1945 to 3 March 1945. Captain Dexter expertly organized an outstanding defense and led his rifle company in a series of furious attacks in a manner so courageous that his men were inspired to great success despite the intense artillery and mortar fire they were forced to penetrate. Attacking at the head of the riflemen, Captain Dexter, by his superior leadership and outstanding courage, prevented many casualties to his unit and was responsible for inflicting heavy losses upon the enemy. The extraordinary heroism and courageous action of Captain Dexter reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.

Colonel Dexter, a longtime supporter of the Legion of Valor, resided in Northern California. He joined the Legion of Valor in 1985.
