SANTO J. DISALVO, a member of the 36th Infantry Division in WWII, when his squad was pinned down by heavy enemy fire, he – by rising – drew all enemy fire upon himself, enabling his men to withdraw to cover. Then, although a target for enemy machinegun fire, he single-handedly captured the enemy emplacement.
Mr. DiSalvo, a life member, resides in Massachusetts. He joined the Legion of
Valor in 1960.
