LTC STEVEN W. LOSTEN, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action in Luzon, Philippine Islands, February 1 and 2, 1945. He led his company along the bank of the Quinga River and, on three occasions, personally directed the elimination of enemy snipers. When the leading elements were within 2000 yards of the town of Plaridel, they were again blocked by mortar, machine gun, and rifle fire. With machine guns for covering fire, he led an assault on the enemy fortifications and directed a rocket launcher in destroying one pillbox. The next morning he directed artillery and mortar fire on the enemy, and when the barrage ceased, led his men in a bayonet charge. The company rushed the pillboxes, surprising the enemy, and destroyed them.
LTC Losten was a member since 1949.
