Commander’s Message Jan/Feb 2017

Just Saying: In my latest bedtime reading, Jeff Shaara’s bestselling, A Blaze of Glory: A Novel of the Battle of Shiloh, flags on both sides played a role. Men fought and died for their flags in many Civil War battles. As to our organizational flag, I cannot express my strong emotions and pride in seeing it carried on Veteran’s Day in Arlington, by George Malone III, son of Sue & George Malone, NC. Our U.S.flag was carried by an ROTC cadet from a university here in Newport News, VA.President – elect Trump’s tweet about the U.S. flag has drawn criticism for seeking consequences for those who burn it. This is a political and Constitutional issue, to which, as National Commander, I can’t commit our organization. But we can continue our commitment to have respect for our flag and fly it proudly. It may go without saying, but if I could write a General Order No. 1, that would be it!
